planning. Aerial and satellite photography is a vital part of LSA’s
data collection, analysis, and presentation activities, but the
task of dealing with imagery has often caused a love-hate relationship
with the medium.According to Peter Pang of LSA, “Although
imagery has been an incredibly useful resource for us, we were often
frustrated by the amount of money, effort, and time spent on getting
this kind of content into the hands of our staff.”
But recently, LSA tried ImageConnect, GlobeXplorer’s online
aerial and satellite imagery extensions for GIS and CAD software.
ImageConnect is a hosted service that enables Internet access to
the largest commercial library of satellite and aerial imagery in
the world. With the click of a button, LSA could access imagery
instantly, re-projected to any desired map projection.
“With ImageConnect, LSA has increased our ability to provide
service and cost savings to our clients,” said Peter. “It’s
enabled LSA to provide a value-added service to our clients by facilitating
flexibility and by decreasing our response time for data acquisition
as compared to our previous methods. In the past, a 1 to 2 week
response time was required in the acquisition of aerial imagery
for areas outside our existing inventory of imagery. ImageConnect
has made a considerable increase in available budget and time in
areas of study and product development.”
